ARTICLE I Name and Purpose
The name of this organization shall be the Wisconsin News Photographers Association, Inc. It is formed without capital stock and no dividends or pecuniary profits shall be declared to the members.
The objectives and purposes of this association shall be:
a) The advancement of news photography in all its phases.
b) The promotion and protection of the interests and welfare of the news photographer.
c) A declared intention of the founders of this association to totally refrain from involvement in labor/employer/employee relations of any sort.
d) To assist the educators of new generations of news photographers, whenever possible.
ARTICLE II Membership
Active 1 Members shall be:
a) Accredited still and video news photographers employed in Wisconsin, whose primary responsibility is news photography.
b) Photographer/reporters for newsgathering organizations.
c) Photo technicians and lab personnel employed by newsgathering organizations.
d) Picture editors of newsgathering organizations.
e) Educational institution and government photographers.
f) Industrial and public relations photographers.
g) Teachers of photojournalism in high schools and accredited colleges and universities.
Associate Members are those who do not meet the requirements for membership outlined above, but who aid in the welfare of the association through payment of annual dues. They shall have no vote or participation in the conduct of the business of the association or its contests. They are welcome to participate in all education and social functions of the association, and shall be included in its mailing list.
Student Members are students who are studying photojournalism or practicing news photography for school publications, or video or electronic publications, or video or electronic outlets. They must be enrolled in school in Wisconsin or list their home address in Wisconsin if they go to school out of state. Their dues will be one-half of the dues of the association, or as determined by a vote of the membership at the annual business meeting. They may participate in all contests, educational and social functions of the association but cannot vote or participate in business of the association.
Sustaining Members are those newsgathering organizations, or visual communications, or visual communications departments of other organizations, who desire to aid in the welfare of the association through payment of dues determined by the Board of Directors. They may participate in all educational and social functions of the association, but do not have the right to vote or participate in the business of the association.
Life Membership shall be awarded to members who have reached the age of 65 and have been dues-paying members for at least five consecutive years preceding age 65. They shall no longer pay annual dues and may vote, participate in the conducting of business of the association, and participate in all educational and social functions of the association.
Honorary Memberships may be awarded to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession of news photography, to the association, or to the photographic industry. Nominations may be made by any member, subject to the majority approval of the Board of Directors. They shall have no vote or participation in the conduct of the business of the association, or its contests. They are welcome to participate in all education and social functions of the association, and shall be included in its mailing list. Honorary members shall not pay annual dues.
Any member may be suspended or expelled or otherwise penalized for any conduct deemed improper or prejudicial to the association by a vote of three-fourths of the Board of Directors and only after the member has been afforded a full and fair hearing before the Board of Directors.
ARTICLE III Application for Membership
All applications for membership in the association shall be submitted to the membership chairperson in writing on a form provided by the association, signed by the applicant, endorsed and signed by a member in good standing and accompanied by the current annual dues in full.
Within one months of receipt of an application, the membership chairperson, acting on behalf of the Board of Directors shall confirm or reject the application. If she/he confirms the application, she/he shall notify the secretary and send appropriate credentials and recognition to the applicant. If the membership chairperson feels that an applicant should be rejected, the application shall be reviewed by two or more members of the Board of Directors.
Should a member resign or be expelled, the member must return all credentials to the secretary. A member losing his or her credentials must notify proper authorities and the secretary immediately of such a loss.
Any misrepresentation on the application or misstatement of fact to the membership chairperson prior to acceptance as a member shall result in voiding the application and forfeitures of dues. However, if the misrepresentation or misstatement is discovered after election to membership, the member shall be subject to provisions of Article II, Section 7.
ARTICLE IV Dues
Active members shall be required to pay annual dues. The annual dues amount shall be determined annually by a vote of the membership at the annual meeting, to be effective on January 1 of the next calendar year. The Board of Directors shall make a formal recommendation to the membership on the amount of dues based on the financial condition of the association.
Dues notices shall be made to the membership prior to December 1 of the year preceding the next calendar year. Members whose dues are not paid by February 1 of the calendar year shall be considered delinquent and may be dropped from membership. They shall not be eligible to enter the Pictures of the Year contest if they do not meet the dues requirements outlined in the annual contest rules.
Reinstatement shall be considered upon reapplication accompanied by payment of the current year’s dues.
ARTICLE V Meetings
An annual meeting shall be held each calendar year, in conjunction with the annual Pictures of the Year contest and educational seminar.
Other meetings may be called by the President, or the Board of Directors or by one-fourth of the voting membership.
Written notice stating place, day and hour of the meeting and its purpose shall be delivered to the membership 72 hours prior to the start of the meeting.
