2014 Convention and Trade Show – Madison

Please plan to join us for the Wisconsin News Photographers Association’s 2014 Convention and Trade Show at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Health Sciences Learning Center (HSLC) Atrium and Room 1335 (map) on Saturday, April 26, 2014.

A presentation by acclaimed portrait photographer and lighting master Gregory Heisler is being made possible by the generosity of the Canon Explorers of Light program. Also presenting work are Mark Hirsch, the photographer behind That Tree; Spencer Chumbley, a video producer with VICE News; and Rob Hart, a photojournalist and educator, formerly with the Chicago Sun-Times. E. Jason Wambsgans of the Chicago Tribune returns to WNPA, this time with reporter Peter Nickeas. A photographer/reporter team for the paper’s in-depth homicide project “Under the Gun,” they will present the project and discuss the teamwork it takes to be successful on major projects.

HSLC Professional market representatives from Canon and Nikon will be on site, available to answer your technical questions and demonstrate products. On Friday during the contest judging, and Saturday during the convention, a Canon Factory Authorized Service Technician will provide complimentary clean and check service on your Canon DSLR cameras and EF lenses (WNPA members and registered conference attendees only, limit two items, first come first serve).

Full-professional and full-student members of WNPA can attend for no additional cost (2014 dues include all contest and convention fees). Basic members and non-members may register to attend members-only events and sessions for $20. Join WNPA, or pay convention fees by clicking here and choose  “+ 2014 Annual Convention Registration Fee $20.00 USD” from the paypal menu. Two morning sessions (Heisler and Hirsch), as well as our sponsor display tables will be open to the general public at no cost.

The convention will be kicked-off by a WNPA Social Night on Friday evening, April 25, 2014, from 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. at Union South (map), hosted by WNPA President Lukas Keapproth. Come enjoy an affordable cash bar, see old friends and make new ones. Winning images from the POY contests will be on display the entire evening. Light snacks will be provided. WNPA members will receive a drink ticket. Attendees must RSVP to Keapproth no later than April 15 by email (lkeapproth@gmail.com) or the event’s Facebook page.

The Professional POY contest judging will be in Room 1220 of the HSLC, earlier Friday, April 25, 2014, from 9 a.m. until finish (typically late afternoon). All are welcome to attend.

The Student POY contest judging will be in the auditorium of the Capital Newspapers building (map) on Thursday, April 24, 2014, from 9 a.m. to finish (typically mid-afternoon). All are welcome to attend. You will need to register as a visitor upon entry.

    I know you don’t have the detailed schedule released for Saturday yet, but do you have an approximate start and end time? I work in the morning and at night, so I’m just wondering if this will still be going on in the early afternoon/evening. Thanks!
