Pulitzer winners have Wisconsin ties

Des Moines Register photographer Mary Chind has been honored with the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for news photography. Chind’s photograph shows the daring rescue of a woman from the Des Moines River by a local construction worker rigged to a crane.

Chind, left, is a Wisconsin-native and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was also honored with a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting, giving recognition to reporter Raquel Rutledge”s series “Cashing in on Kids” about fraud and abuse in Wisconsin’s child-card subsidy program. WNPA 2007, 2008 and 2009 Photographer of the Year Kristyna Wentz-Graff, right, photographed the story which placed third in the news picture story of the 2009 POY contest.
