WNPA to see changes in 2009

Members of the WNPA board met Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Appleton Post-Crescent to discuss various issues and changes that will be happening to WNPA over the coming year. Here is a summary of the leading issues discussed at the meeting:

Freelance photographer Patrick Blood will take over Dan Powers’ convention duties. Powers spent the past several years procuring donations of photo gear for awards and door prizes during the convention.

Green Bay Press-Gazette photo director Jim Matthews is taking over WNPA treasurer duties, landing the job after Journal Sentinel photojournalist Rick Wood handled the duties for over 20 years.  Matthews will send emails to members participating in clip contest to make sure their dues are current.

WNPA Convention 2009 will be held in Madison, Wis. The board is looking at the Pyle Center on the UW Madison campus as the likely venue. The board is looking at narrowing the weekend dates down from a number of weekends. Secretary Dan Young will be in charge of the convention brochure.

President Tom Loucks along with Vice President Mike King and convention chair John Maniaci will work on getting speakers, four, including a Canon Explorer of Light.

The WNPA board was in general agreement with Multimedia Contest Chair Kristyna Wentz-Graff’s statements and decided that to have two multimedia categories for POY contest, video and audio slideshow, with the judging done before the convention and some way for the winners to be seen at the convention. Points in the categories will be the same as in still categories.
