Change coming in Eau Claire

An announcement was made here in Eau Claire today that after many years of being a weekday “evening” newspaper the Leader-Telegram will be switching to 7-day-a-week a.m. publication.

With this change taking place sometime in June some adjustment will need to be made to our photo staff’s daily schedules. I’m hoping some of you folks in places like Appleton, Green Bay, Madison, Racine, Sheboygan (and anywhere else)would share information on how you are scheduled in a “normal” week. What times are the standard shifts at your paper? Do you rotate day/night shifts? How is Saturday/Sunday work handled?

I’ll keep an eye on the weblog or I’d love to get an email from you at

This conversion will be a far bigger shock for our reporters and copy desk than it will be for us in the Photo and Sports Depts. Personally I’m looking forward to the change. I can’t say I’ll really miss the 5 a.m. alarm clock to make the 6:30 a.m. news budget meeting!

Thanks for any insights you can provide,

Steve Kinderman
